In Venezuela there is Hugo Chavez, in Italy there is Silvio Berlusconi, in Romania there is Dan Diaconescu. What do these three men have in common? Vanity and hubris (difficult word for wanting to much and thinking you can do it). Chavez holds speeches for hours, sometimes he even sings a song and everyone is obliged to watch and listen. Berlusconi is as much on TV as the daily weather reports, preferably concerning scandals with much younger girls. And in Romania you cannot turn on the TV without being confronted with Dan Diaconescu.

Dan Diaconescu is a failed political wannabe journalist. At least, this is his own qualification of what he is pretending to do. In most parts of the world the term journalist has a different explanation. Has got something to do with: independent, research, the need to expose certain items, to inform and more of these noble things. That is why most journalists in the world have things in common. One of these things are: they are rather poor they are not in it for the money. After all, a journalists’ goal is to reach an audience and inform, and he desires to be faithful to that audience. But not Dan Diaconescu.

There is TV show on most nights on where it does not really matter what time you start watching it because everything you see is the same as 10 minutes earlier, or a day earlier, or a week, a month even a year. Hell if you would skip it, it does not matter because in the future it will look the same as in the past. It is the sight of a studio, with a big desk, a computer, and a man with grey hair matching a similar grey suit. The man bores, bores and bores everyone to death talks talks and talks while watching a computer screen and every now and then someone else (via telephone) squeaks back at him. He never looks really interested in what he is talking about, even more so with the people who talk to him on the phone. One might have the idea he is simply playing a game on his computer watching statistics on his computer and is forced to sit there, listening to what his disciples viewers have to say. You almost feel sorry for him; always the same suit, always the same décor, always the same talks. WTF, this man is forced to do this!! You think at first seeing this. In the bottom of the page the usual money making tool interaction tool: sms if you are pro or against…something. Usualy something obvious like: are you against corruption? Because his disciples, followers, viewers tent not to be of the brightest sort. It does not matter what this question is, as long as you reply to it to bring him money with an sms. Do not expect an sms back from him by the way. Because that cost money he is too busy talking to do this. And Dan Diaconescu is only interested in taking money. That is why he drives a Rolls Royce of 300.000 euro. This for a journalist is very common. I see everyday Rolls Royces driving by with journalists on their way to yet another news item…not. And Dan Diaconescu has about 30 million euro in his bank account. Yes, being a journalist pays very well!

Not so long ago Mr Diaconesu was arrested and put to interrogation. Had something to do with black-mailing some mayor. And what a media spectacle it became. Coming out of the court house his hands held up high, walking slowly so the momentum lasted longer. Showing (his own) TV camera’s how he was being victimized. Taking a microphone, it just so happen to be from his own network of course, to talk to “the people” about the great injustice that overcame him. Because this could happen to anyone who drives a 300.000 Rolls Royce and has 30 million on his account drives a Dacia Supernova and has no job. As with sex, there needs t be a climax and this was not it. Besides orange is not in sync. With the color of the handcuffs and his gray hair, that is why he wears the suit. No, he went straight to a concert, because there were his cameras and his disciples followers. When leaving the police car, this time in the suit (of course) he was even more on his element. Hands even higher raised, as if he wanted to ask God himself to come down and free him from his hand cuffs. Bearing the sins of all Romanians on him, walking slowly into the huge crowd of his disciples followers. Getting pats on the back, shoulders, shaking his cuffed hands with women and children. No, this was not a journalist walking there, this was the Messiah himself walking carrying his cross on his back to Golgotha. All filmed of course, by his own strategic placed camera’s so the whole spectacle could be seen from every angle.

Of course those camera’s were there not accidently, of course Mr. Diaconescu gave a little extra to asked the police officer politely to please keep on his handcuffs a little longer. Of course it was all staged to the bone all coincidently. The police officer lost the keys of the cuffs, the car took a wrong turn and ended up at the concert, and the camera’s were there only to film the concert. Of course. Later that night on his own dull and repetitive and egocentric talk show came a message for the sms money making interaction tool. Do you want me for president yes or no? With that he reached the lowest point in his ‘journalism’ career.

Dan Diaconescu is not a journalist. He is an entrepreneur, horny for attention, power and money. And he will do anything to get it. His disciples or followers viewers are either blind, or just don’t see how the world is turning. Dan Diaconescu is not even a real person, he is a carefully created character that cashes in, under the notion that he is a journalist. An independent one who’s only task it is to inform the Romanian people. Driving a Rolls, having 30 million euro in his bank account, having his own TV show virtually every night, wanting to become president and use his show as a vehicle to mislead the people and specially his followers.

Oh…and all those accusations towards him about black mailing (Ursus anyone?). It are all lies, because Dan Diaconescu investigated the matter personally and independently and came to the conclusion that there are no discrepancies or irregularities concerning his wealth.
